Episode 032 How to achieve ANYTHING
At the beginning of each quarter, I set new goals.
I used to do New Year's Resolutions but a 12-month goal seemed harder to reach so I changed my sites on goals every 3 months. For me, goals every 3 months made me much more focused on the things I truly wanted in my life.
At the beginning of April, I got out my sticky notes (color coded for different categories) and began calling on all the things I want to see in my life. I love a visual reminder of the things I am working on.
In today's lesson, we are going to talk about and organize our mindset around goal setting and manifesting ANYTHING you want.
Let's get started.
First things first, let's talk about what manifesting really is. Manifesting is intentionally creating what you want in your life. That means if you chose to accept the power, you can and will create the life you want to see. Truth be told you are already manifesting things into your life you just aren't aware of it.
Have you ever asked yourself: "Why does this always happen to me?" That's a for sure sign that you manifested that outcome in your life. Begin to notice patterns and experiences that tend to show up and notice if there are any links between that experience and your thoughts. That right there is manifesting.
Manifesting has a few steps to it:
Getting clear on what you want
Aligning what you want from a place of service
Attaching visualizations and creating new thought patterns
Actually doing the work
Getting clear on what you want.
Start with some meditations or free-form journaling to begin to get clear on what you want next in your life. Often I will write down what I want my life to look like and write a schedule of my perfect day. When I get that specific with my days I begin to see the things I am most passionate about. Let's go with an example:
Say you're a choreographer and you're looking to level up on your career. You pick up your journal and plan your perfect day:
- Out the door at 9
- Teaching class one at 10
- Teaching class two at 1130
- Lunch with a friend at 1
- Meeting for a new project at 230
- Teaching class three at 4
- Dinner at home around 6
- Glass of wine and planning next day at 8
If that's your perfect day you might notice that you thrive at being busy and juggling multiple projects. You also can see you aren't interested in being committed to just one studio, and yet you still want to have space in your schedule for meals and friends.
Those are the things that you would notice are important to you and you would begin to create clear goals around what's most important. Every goal moving forward aligns with the ideas and experiences that you hold at the highest level.
The thing that's most powerful about goals is not just the goal, but the experience you are trying to create. Let me explain. If we stay with our earlier example and you stated you wanted to teach at Broadway Dance Center 3 times a week, Choreograph for one dance show, and reach out to 3 theaters to assist in choreography, those are your goals for right now to stay in line with being booked, working on multiple projects, and still having time for friends. When you accomplish those goals you will need to create new goals and those new goals should still be in line with what's important. That way you are still clear with what you want and you continue to create the life you love.
Think experience first, then goals that support your experience next.
Ok, so you've gotten clear. You have a specific idea of your experiences and goals. Now I need you to take it another step further.
Go back to your list and ask yourself are your goals coming from a place of service?
See, when you are working in the space of manifestation you are putting your faith or surrendering your will to a higher power. Be it the universe, God, stars, moon, call it what you want, you are asking for help from something outside of yourself. That power responds and listens when you are aligned from a place of service. Goals that come from greed are often lost and if we were to get those things they wouldn't provide the happiness or joy we thought they world.
Going back to our original example: If your goal is to teach at BDC 3 times a week, ask yourself why. Maybe because that's where you took your first class, and it inspired you to be the choreographer you are today AND you want to inspire others. Or maybe you're looking to be around like-minded people to build a community of performers who support each other. The answers that are truly aligned with service are easily heard and are deeply connected to your values.
When you make the goal about others, you know you have to show up and do the work!
Also, don't be afraid to connect your goals to money. Money is energy and money allows you to continue what you love doing. Just make sure it's still connected to service. If your goal is to make 1000 per week from choreo work then ask yourself why and how it would serve others. Maybe 1000 per week would give you enough money and work to hire an assistant, therefore, you are creating jobs for other artists. Connecting what you are most passionate about to the service of others will align your goals to a higher source and when days get tough they will keep you connected to your why's.
So you're clear on your goals and they are in line with the service of others. What now?
Well, now it's time to get to work.
Yes, manifesting does not come only from sitting in your meditations. That's called wishing or hoping. Manifesting combines your goals, your service, and your work together to get your results.
The work comes in 3 parts:
- Visualizing your goals
- Creating new thought patterns that support new feelings and actions
- Doing at least 1 thing everyday towards that goal
New thought patterns
If this concept is new to you go back and listen to episode 007 Goals from Abundance to get a grasp on what I am sharing in this section. If you have listened to the podcast, you know that your thoughts create your feelings, your feelins create your actions, and from that inspired action you can get any result you want.
So now that you are ready to begin the work, start with creating a few new thoughts that will get you in the right mental space. Let's go back to our goal of teaching at BDC 3 times a week. In order to get mentally clear and inspired you might begin with these thoughts:
- I am an inspired teacher
- I care about each of my students
- I want to share what I know and love
One of those sentences might become your new mantra so you can bust through any negativity that might show up. Write these thoughts down and practice them every chance you get.
Yes, doing this type of work can feel tedious. If that's what's coming up for you then reconnect to our whys to get re-energized.
Take those new thoughts and goals and allow yourself to visualize them already happening. Picture yourself grabbing your starbucks before teaching. Picture your students walking in the door, changing their shoes, and warming up before class. Imagine that first breath in as you introduce yourself. Imagine the playlist you would play.
There is no detail too small to imagine. When you get into this wonderfully visual place you are allowing yourself to experience your life as you want it. You are allowing yourself to create new feelings that you are going to want to hold onto as you show up and do more work.
Think about how powerful this is!. You are clear on your goals, they are aligned from a place of service, you've created an unstoppable thought process, and you are surrounded with beautiful visualizations and feelings in your goals.
Getting to work
The last step becomes so much easier and inevitable if you truly have done the work up to this point. This is where you show up for your life. Do at least 1 thing each day from that place of inspiration to achieve anything you want. Yes, you do actually have to do the work.
If your goal is to write a book and you only visualize the book it will never actually happen. You have to practice writing, get feedback, and make connections. It's all part of the journey.
This all may seem a bit overwhelming and you might be asking: "can't I just go to an audition and book work?" Yes, you can. My question back would be: Don't you want a little more out of your life and purpose?
Creating the life you want from a place of manifestation allows you to truly stay aligned with who you are, what you want to contribute and how you show up each day.
Don't you think your life is worth it? I do!
Get to work!
